Karen found the experience of having psychotherapy enormously healing and empowering. This partly contributed to her decision to become a psychotherapist.
Through her work in education, as well as in the wider public domain, and charity sectors, Karen became very aware of the short and long-term suffering caused by bullying. To this day, her private practice continues to support many people affected by bullying.
Having realised that she has some of the traits of a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), she became adept at honing her sensitivity in beneficial ways; not least in attuning to her clients. In addition, she has equipped herself to work therapeutically with other HSPs. She is named on Professor Elaine Aron’s list of suitably qualified therapists.
For 11 years, Karen worked for a charity with people suffering with emotional difficulties. Many of them were suffering, in part, as a result of having autism in a world mostly populated by neurotypicals. Karen brought her experience into her private practice. For the 12 years since then, she has worked to enable people with autism to thrive. She also works with neurotypical partners and family of people with autism.
Karen has several years’ experience resolving post-trauma from traffic and workplace accidents. For this she uses both CBT and EMDR.
Karen’s training in CBT, and qualifications in Adlerian, Existential psychotherapy, Systemic Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT) offer in-depth expertise supporting individuals with a range of mental and emotional health conditions.
She is also an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) practitioner; and uses EMDR to resolve single-event traumas, long, drawn out experiences of trauma, plus anxiety and low mood-related emotional pain.
She has extensive experience working as a couples therapist and family counsellor; enabling people to overcome the challenges of difficult dynamics, attachment issues and emotional problems.
Karen is also a qualified and experienced infertility counsellor. She is accreditted by the British Infertility Counselling Association (AMBICA) (IP).
